Crisis Responder Training: How to Support Schools & Districts
This training leads current and potential crisis responders through the steps and skills to provide meaningful and effective support to students, teachers, schools, and districts in the aftermath of a tragedy or crisis incident. Participants learn skills for communicating with students and staff, supporting building leaders, coordinating Care Rooms and other services, and engaging in psychological triage.

Building and district leaders have a unique role in the aftermath of a tragedy or crisis incident that impacts the schools. Participants learn skills for communicating with staff and families, coordinating the needs of the building, maintaining a calm and reassuring environment, and planning for the future.
Presenters
Karen Pearse Apgar
As a long-time member and current project lead of the Lane County Tragedy Response Network, and a nationally-certified school psychologist, Dr. Apgar has received and provided training on various aspects of responding to acute traumatic events that impact schools and districts. She is her district's crisis response coordinator and has also responded to events in other Oregon school districts. She has been trained in multiple crisis models, including PREPaRE, Connect, ASIST, and I Love You Guys, and other crisis-related response systems. She provides practical and engaging workshops that meet the needs of individuals with various levels of experience.
